Overall we played well as a team. We were placing our shots well and we were putting away our opponents whenever we had the chance to do so. The result of that was us jumping out to a 3-0 lead in games.
From that point our opponents could have just quit on the game thinking it was out of our reach. However, our opponents didn't do this. One of the most unique aspects of the game of tennis is that someone can come back very easily because the chances of the tides turning are never low. Our opponents did exactly this and they next thing I knew we were only up 3-2.
My partner and I knew that we had to pull ourselves together because we just couldn't let the game slip away. We became motivated to turn the tide in our favor once again and we did exactly that. We won two games to turn our lead into a more comfortable 5-3 score.
Looking back I feel like we completely let our guard down once again. Only this time the consequences were much worse and the feeling was horrendous. The match was almost ours. Victory was 2 points away and within our grasp. But, we let it slip away. The won the final four games to hand us a 7-5 heartbreaking loss.
I felt awful because I knew it was within my control. Next time I will not let my guard down.
