This morning in Olympic men's hockey the host Russians fell to Finland in the quarterfinal. To me this was a stunning game because I thought that Russia was going to win it all because they had the home crowd on their side. To me this is an advantage but I can see how it can play in as a disadvantage. There was a lot of pressure on the Russians to win the gold on their home soil. They just weren't able to buckle down against the Fins. Russia started out well when Illya Kolvalchuck scored early in the first period. From there, Russia crashed on defense. Shortly after JuhamattiAALTONEN awnsered for the Fins. Finland captain Teumue Selane of the Anahiem Ducks scored shortly after to give Finland a 2-1 lead. Mikal Granlund scored later in the second to give Finland a 3-1 lead. The Russians pulled their goalie Semyon Valamov and replaced him with Sergei Bobrovsky. Bobrovsky played well and did not let Finland score for the rest of the game. However, it was too late for Russia to do something on offense so the final score was 3-1 Finland. The Fins advance to the semi-finals against Sweden who beat Slovenia 5-0. It should be a great matchup. As for Russia, they are done.
