I just got back from a family reunion in Puerto Rico and it was an incredible time for me. We stayed at the Ritz Carlton resort at Dorado Beach. The resort was fabulous and I will never forget my time there.
We flew out there on friday morning at 8:00. We got to San Juan at around 2:00 and we drove for an hour to get to the resort. Once we arrived we went right to see our room. The room was nice because it was in a small building with a lot of space. Most of our cousins were in the same building as us if not the next one over. The best part about our rooms is that we all had our own private balcony and small infinaty pool.
I went swimming for awhile in the ocean since we were right near the beach. Shortly after, my other cousins arrived and we played football on the beach. After that we went out to dinner at the main restuarant. I ordered a steak and it was the best steak that I had ever tasted in my entire life.
The next day was a great one. We first went to the breakfast buffet and had delicious pastries. After that my cousin nick and I ran in to two other people who were staying at the resort and they wanted to play 2 on 2 football with us. We had a blast with them and we played for a very long time. After that we went to the mini water park at the resort. They had two thrilling thirty foot water slides. The best part about the slides was that you could go down a slide with someone at the exact same time. After the water park we played some more football with some other people that we meet and it was a blast. We ended up playing a lot of football over the course of the trip. We had a nice dinner at this restuarant called mi casa and then we hit the hay.
Sunday was the best day of the vacation. My dad and I got up early and played some tennis. The courts at the resort were splendid. We went to another breakfast buffet similar to the one that we went to on the previous day. After that we participated in something they had set up for us called the amazing race where we would compete in field day style games against other family members. There were four teams and our team ended up winning the competition. We ate lunch at this place called the surf room which was amazing. Afterwords, we had a desert competition where our same team had to make the best cupcake and present it to the judge. Our team ended up coming in second place out of the four.
We had four hours of free time and I spent it playing football with my dad and cousins in the pool.
I also spent some time bogie boarding when the waves were good. At 6:00 we had to go take our family photos. After that we had an incredible dinner on the beach where there was a miraculous buffet arranged for us. I also played an awesome 3 on 3 football game with my cousins on the beach. After that, we all watched the 49ers game and then went to bed.
Monday morning was pretty fun. We went to the breakfast buffet and then the waves were awesome so we went bogie boarding all morning. Then after a quick swim in the pool it was time to leave. We said our goodbyes for until summertime and that leaves me where I am now.
It was a time that I will never forget. Year after year I never forget our family reunions. Not just because of the fact that we always go somewhere tropical but because I get to see my second cousins. Developing family relationships is important and I am so happy that I have been able to do that with my extended family.
How To Be a Poet~Wendell Berry
Make a place to sit down.
Sit down. Be quiet.
You must depend upon
affection, reading, knowledge,
skill—more of each
than you have—inspiration,
work, growing older, patience,
for patience joins time
to eternity. Any readers
who like your poems,
doubt their judgment.
Breathe with unconditional breath
the unconditioned air.
Shun electric wire.
Communicate slowly. Live
a three-dimensioned life;
stay away from screens.
Stay away from anything
that obscures the place it is in.
There are no unsacred places;
there are only sacred places
and desecrated places.
Accept what comes from silence.
Make the best you can of it.
Of the little words that come
out of the silence, like prayers
prayed back to the one who prays,
make a poem that does not disturb
the silence from which it came.
Why I picked this poem for WW. Fenn
I feel like this will be a great poem to memorize. The poem itself is very well written, but the reason I choose it was because of the message that was conveyed. When I memorize it I will also memorize the message about how to write a poem. While it is an example of a good poem it also tells you how to write a good poem. Through memorizing this I will become a better poet.
That day was a unique expirience that I will never forget. I learned many different things from many people by reading their self reflections because I would learn about their experiences and how they learned from them. I especially enjoyed Hal Groome's personal reflection. He talked about how he wasted his time procrastinating on his homework. I loved hearing about how he enjoyed what he was doing at the time but after that when he got to his homework it had made his life more difficult. I realized here that I need to buckle down and get my work done because in the long run it will go a long way. I also know that if you procrastinate, you will suffer conciquences such as the ones that James suffered when he waited until 10 at night to get his literary analysis paragraph done.
Though Procrastination was the most common thing that was written about and reflected on, I really enjoyed reading Quincey Hughes's narrative paragraph about his hockey game in the district finals. I especially enjoyed reading his ellaboration on how determined he was to succeed in that game.
