Epic Poem: Pierre's Parental Problem
Book one: Life as an orphan
Growing up as an orphan was no picnic for Pierre Bozad
He never met his mother or his father.
Pierre always wished desperately that he had.
Pierre lived in an orphanage in Tele, Arizona.
Tele was a small town that was very arid and there was little water supply.
Mr. Dorna was the evil man ran the orphanage.
It was brutal because he made the orphans do all his chores in the hot sun.
He basically treated them like servants!
Pierre always wanted a lot more in his life, but there was nothing that he could do.
He was far from old enough to live on his own and would adopt him.
Nobody would come to the small village of Tele, Arizona.
Pierre never had anyone in his life.
“My life stinks!” Pierre said to himself as he was about to go to sleep.
Mr. Dorna didn’t even buy him a bed. He just made the orphans sleep on the floor.
“I want something more” Pierre said to himself.
“Shut up!” someone said sharply. “Dorna will kill us if he hears you.”
Pierre didn’t say anything. He just silently gazed into the night sky.
Book two: Meet Tom.
Pierre woke up to the sounds of a shovel digging into the ground.
He looked out the window and saw a man digging.
"That's the oddest thing that I have ever seen in my life" Pierre said
"He won’t find anything down there”.
Pierre sauntered his way out of his bed.
“Why?” he asked himself.
"Why would that guy be digging in this silly old dump of a town?” Pierre decided to walk outside and see what was going on.
"Hey what are you doing out there digging out there? Pierre yelled from the door.
"You won’t find anything.”
“I think you’re wrong, mate” the man said.
"I came across a map and there was an X in this exact location."
“So what,” Pierre replied,. “That doesn’t mean anything”.
“You’re wrong there, little buddy” the small man replied.
“There’s supposed to be a treasure chest filled with gold underground.
Don’t you know anything about the pirate life?
I have been searching for this treasure for years. That’s what all pirates do.
They search the seas for gold. It’s pretty odd this time that the gold is in a desert.”
“Indeed it is” said Pierre. "I bet there isn’t any gold down there”.
"Hey Tom!” a deep voice yelled from the window. “Get off my property!”
It was Mr. Dorna. His face was as red as a tomato.
Steam was flowing out of his ears.
“You know him?” Pierre asked. “But how?” “You’re a pirate.”
“No I’m not. “Tom said. Then he looked around cautiously.
I’m a secret agent on a mission to find you and right now we gotta get outta here before Mr. Dorna comes back.”
“Why?” Pierre asked.
“I’ll explain everything later. Just trust me. Right now we gotta run.”
Tom reached out his hand.
Pierre took it. And away they went.
Book 3: On the run
Pierre and Tom ran until they got to the road.
Tom spotted an enormous white truck heading towards them.
“Thats our ride” he whispered.
The back of the truck opened as the truck pulled up next to them.
“Hurry in, boys” the man yelled.
“I see Mr. Dorna!”
Sure enough about 100 feet behind them, Mr. Dorna was running after them with a sword in his hand.
“Pierre, don’t trust that man; he’s evil. The only reason he wants you is to kill you.
I’m sorry I have treated you so cruelly. I am your father
Come with me and I will tell you everything.
As for you Tom, you may want to kiss your life goodbye.”
“Pierre, don’t listen to him!
He’s luring you into a trap and he is not your father!
Come with me if you want to live to see your real parents!"
Tom jumped into the truck.
“Pierre, C’mon” he urged.
Pierre jumped into the truck.
The driver started up the truck.
Mr. Dorna made a leap for the moving truck.
He ended up eating the dirt.
“You lucked out there, Tom, but unfortunately for you, you haven’t seen the last of me!
Neither have you, Pierre.”
“You’ll be extra sorry, too”
He cracked an evil laugh.
Pierre gazed long and hard at that evil face,
Until the truck became out of sight.
Pierre turned over to Tom.
“I guess I have some explaining to do.”
Pierre nodded in agreement.
“Indeed you do,” he replied.
Book 4: Tom explains everything.
Tom sighed "Alright, I guess I owe it to ya kid. You’ve had a rough first decade of your life."
Pierre seemed creeped out. "So, do you know all about my life? Have you been watching me or something?"
" Well, yes. I watch you because I one of your father's agents. He sent me to find you."
"Why did I end up as an orphan? What happened to my mother."
After Pierre mentioned his mom, a frown formed across Tom's face.
" Listen Pierre, your mother made a huge mistake.
She turned to the dark side after she got in a fight with your father.
She took you to Mr. Dorna right after you were born.
Your father tried to save you but she got out too quickly.
Your father was devastated. Because Mr. Dorna isn't just an orphanage owner.
Mr. Dorna is an evil scientist with plans to take over the world.
That's why he makes you do his chores. So he can work on his evil inventions."
Pierre was shocked. "How do you know all this?"
Tom sighed. "It's been a lot of work searching the world for you disguised as a pirate.
We didn't know where your mother took you.
Other agents have been on the look for you too.
The driver up front is my partner, Angus.
As for Mr. Dorna, he has tried to take over the world before.
Fortunately, your parents have stopped him every time.
Unfortunately, now your mother isn't with us.
It worries me that she might be working with Mr. Dorna.
But don’t think about that because right now we are about to see your father.”
Pierre was happy about that. “Where are we?”he asked.
“Denver, Colorado. Walk in that white house and you will see your father.”
“Okay thanks.” Pierre replied.
He got out of the truck and meandered inside.
He had no idea what was coming.
Book 5: Pierre meets his father.
Pierre walked into the house not knowing what to expect.
What would his father say when he saw him?.
Pierre saw a mere shadowy figure from the other side of the room.
The figure held out his arms and yelled out to him.
"Pierre, come here, I am your father."
Pierre just stood there.
How could he run up and hug a man he did not even know?
The man quickly ran over to him.
"I get that life is awkward between me and you.
" We just met. I am just so glad you are here.
You know how long I've been searching for you?
"How long?" Pierre asked.
"10 years of long and hard searching," Pierre's father replied.
Pierre jumped into his father’s arms.
They embraced for about two whole minutes.
Suddenly Tom walked in.
“Sir, look at the newspaper I just found”
The paper showed the city of Houston, Texas.
THe city was completely in flames.
There were a bunch of soldiers fighting against a huge robot.
Inside the robot was Mr. Dorna and a middle aged woman.
Pierre’s dad gasped. “It’s her. That’s your mother Pierre.”
Pierre was scared. “What are we going to do”
“Agent Tom and I are going to Houston to kill that stupid robot,” Pierre’s father growled,
“and those two evil two evil scums inside of it too.”
Book 6: Off to battle.
Pierre wanted badly to go with them to fight.
“Dad, can I come with you” he yelled as his dad was leaving.
“I can help you guys win the fight”
Pierre’s dad yelled back “ No Pierre, this is too dangerous for you.
I want you to stay right here in this house.
Agent Andrew is upstairs.
He will keep watch over you while we are gone.
Don’t worry, though.
We will be back soon.”
With that he ran out the door.
Pierre followed him all the way out the door.
“Dad, please!” he yelled.
“I am way more worthy than you think.
I know Mr. Dorna. I can fight him.”
“Pierre, listen to me.
I have made my decision.
It is too dangerous for a 10 year old like you to fight against an enormous robot.
Mr. Dorna is way more powerful than he seems.
Your mother is there too, and she is almost as powerful Mr. Dorna.
They could kill you easily if they had their hands on you.
I don’t want to take that risk.
Just stay here and everything will be fine.”
With that he hopped into the truck and slammed the the door leaving Pierre sulking in the driveway.
Book 7: Pierre gathers his thoughts.
Pierre sat in the driveway feeling miserable.
What was there to do?
Pierre didn’t want to just sit around.
He wanted to go out to Houston and fight for his father.
He wanted badly to fight Mr. Dorna.
That scum had made ten years of his life the most brutal ones.
As Pierre was sitting in the driveway he was approached by a shadowy figure.
“My name is Andrew. I was asked to watch you.” the man said.
“My name is Pierre. I’m going to go inside and get a snack.”
“I will make it for you. Lets go inside together.
They walked into the kitchen. Andrew went into the kitchen.
“What would you like kid” Andrew asked.
“Some chips please.” Pierre replied.
Andrew rummaged through the pantry for awhile.
Pierre sat at the dining room table waiting for his chips.
He wondered about how his dad would hold up against Mr. Dorna.
Pierre was a little angry at his father for not letting him fight.
He just wanted to help.
Pierre was scared that his father may not hold up against Mr. Dorna.
Pierre imagened his poor father receiving a beat down from an enormous robot.
He just couldn’t let that happen.
At that point Pierre knew what he had to do.
“Hey Andrew, I’m going to Houston. I have to do it for my father”
Andrew walked out of the pantry with a knife in his hand.
“You’re not going anywhere kid.” he laughed.
“Because I’m going to kill you”
With that he charged for Pierre.
Pierre tried to run but Andrew grasped his arms around him.
“Unless you give me some answers.”
Book 8: Pierre battles a spy.
Andrew tied Pierre up to a pole.
“Listen kid, Dorna sent me here.
I’m one of his spy’s.
My mission is to find out where the agency headquarters are.
Dorna wants me to blow it up.
I’m supposed to kill you too but here’s the deal.
If you tell me where the headquarters are, I will let you go.”
Pierre could tell that he was lying.
The man would probably kill him anyway.
Pierre had noticed his father come out of the headquarters through the secret door as he was coming to greet him.
He knew that the door was in the back of the living room.
Pierre was debating with himself whether to tell Andrew.
If he told Andrew the truth, maybe he would live.
However, he didn’t want his father to come home with a blown up headquarters.
Besides, Andrew was probably lying to him.
He was almost one hundred percent sure that Andrew would kill him anyway.
Pierre decided to staal to put time on his side.
“When I came inside to meet my father, I saw him come out of a door at the end of that hallway. Pierre pointed down the hall of bedrooms. “It looked like maybe he was coming from his headquarters.”
Andrew walked down the hall over to the door.
He opened it up only to find a washing machine and a dryer in the room.
“Alright kid, you had your chance to live, but now your time is up.”
Andrew charged at him with the knife he had grabbed out of the pantry.
Just as Pierre was about to get slaughtered a man swooped in on a jetpack.
As he was in the air, he kicked Andrew in the head knocking him out cold.
The man landed his jetpack and untied Pierre.
Pierre noticed Andrew getting up.
Pierre ran and grabbed the knife that was lying on the ground.
Andrew had just made it onto his knees when Pierre ran up and slit his throat.
Blood dripped everywhere and Andrew dropped to the ground dead as a doornail.
Pierre looked to find the man who had helped him but he was nowhere to be found.
That didn’t matter because Pierre had to get to Houston.
Pierre didn’t care that he was disobeying his father.
He had a gut feeling that his father needed him.
Pierre wondered how he would be able to get to Houston.
Then he saw that the man who had helped him left his jetpack.
“Bingo” Pierre thought.
Book 9: Pierre defeis his father.
Pierre didn’t know how to use a jetpack.
Nor did he know how to get to Houston.
Pierre saw a red button on the side of the jetpack.
“Maybe this will get me going” Pierre thought.
Pierre didn’t see any other button so he decided to push the red one.
Sure enough Pierre started whirring through the sky.
There were handles on the jetpack so Pierre could steer.
Pierre steered his way so that he flew out the window.
Now Pierre had to figure out how to get to Houston.
Fortunately, Pierre had a compass on him.
He had picked it up during a conversation with Tom in the truck.
Pierre knew that he was in Denver and that Houston was southeast from him.
Pierre glanced at his compass.
He realized that it wasn’t just an ordinary compass.
It had face time on it and it had GPS.
“Perfect!” Pierre said to himself.
Pierre decided to first face time his dad.
He was good at manipulating the screen.
In the next ten seconds he had his dad up.
“Hi dad! Where are you? I want badly to help you in the battle” Pierre yelled.
“Pierre what are you doing” he said sharply.
“You disobeyed me. Where is Andrew?”
“Oh that rotten guy? He’s dead.
He’s one of Dorna’s spy’s.
That scum tried to kill me.
Luckley someone came out of nowhere on this jetpack and untied me.
I picked up a knife and slit Andrew’s throat.
Then I flew out on this jetpack to find you.”
Pierre’s father was completely shocked.
For awhile he didn’t know what to say.
Then he sighed. “Pierre, listen I am sorry that I said you weren’t worthy.
You clearly are worthy because you killed one of Dorna’s spy’s.
I am confident that you can fight in this battle.
Meet us smack in the middle of Houston tomorrow morning.
Use your GPS to get there.
It should be obvious where to go.
Just help us attack the Giant Robot.”
With that he turned off his phone.
Tomorrow was the final battle.
The biggest test Pierre would ever face in his life tommorow.
Pierre was about be fighting to prevent the world from being taken over.
The most shocking part was that he was fighting against the man who raised him and the woman who gave birth to him.
It just didn’t seem right.
But what had to be done had to be done.
For the safety of our world.
Book 10: The final battle.
Pierre and his father reunited at a gas station in Houston at 8:30 a.m the next morning.
A huge metal robot was sitting about a block away.
Inside controling it was Mr. Dorna and Pierre’s mother.
The plan was to spit up and launch surprise attack on the robot.
It would be difficult for the robot because they would all attack it at the same time.
Pierre was going to swoop in on his jetpack with the knife that Andrew tried to kill him with.
Pierre had salvaged it in his bag.
Agent Tom and Pierre’s father would each run in from the front and back with laser guns.
This plan was sure to work.
Pierre swooped in and knifed a whole in the Robots shoulder.
Pierre walked inside the hole and tried to yank the wire to shut the robot down.
Dorna programed one of the arms to whack Pierre.
Tom shot the arm off with his laser.
Pierre’s father did the same to the other arm.
Pierre walked along the inside of the shoulder.
He had to get inside the head and get Dorna.
Pierre crawled all the way to a tiny door that must have been the entrance.
Sure enough it was.
Pierre snuck up behind Dorna and cut his head off.
Only his mom was left.
“Listen mom, I will only do this if I have to.
I don’t want to kill you.
Pierre’s mother glanced at Mr. Dorna’s dead body
“I don’t want to either” she said.
They embraced for about a minute.
Pierre dropped his knife.
They both walked out of the robot.
Pierre’s father saw them and engaged in combat mode.
Pierre stopped him. “It’s okay. She is on our side.”
Pierre had saved everything.
He had created peace among his family.
Mr. Dorna and his evil spy were dead.
Pierre had a family now.
He was a hero.
A great hero with a family.
Metacognition: Writing this poem was an excellent experience for me. I saw it as an excellent opportunity to get creative. Often when I was doing this poem I would have trouble coming up with what to write next. I decided that it was best to write unexpected events so that my epic poem wouldn’t be predictable. I personally prefer writings that are unpredictable because then you have no idea what will come next. That is why I believe many people will find my epic poem extremely enjoyable.
